Mt Hood Sunrise Engagement Session

There’s something magical about starting an engagement session before the sun even rises, and that’s exactly what Kaley and JR did at Trillium Lake on Mt. Hood. As a Portland photographer, I love sessions that are out of town and blend natural beauty with awe-inspiring nature, and this one was no exception.

We started at 7 a.m. to catch the perfect reflection of Mt. Hood on Trillium Lake. The morning light was soft and golden, creating the ideal backdrop for both candid moments and stunning posed portraits. Kaley and JR were absolute naturals on the water’s edge, laughing, holding hands, and simply enjoying the quiet serenity of the lake. We also captured a second set of portraits in a fresh outfit as we hiked the trail around the water’s edge, giving the session even more variety with the wooded areas and paths.

Trillium Lake is one of Mt. Hood’s most iconic spots. Located just off Highway 26, it offers incredible views of Mt. Hood reflected in its calm waters, but you have to get there before the crowds and before the winds kick up. The area is perfect for couples who love nature and a touch of adventure in their engagement session. If you’re planning a visit, parking is available at the lake’s main lot, and it’s a short, easy walk to the water’s edge. If you get there after 8 or 9 am there is usually a fee to enter!

Sunrise sessions here are especially magical because the lake acts as a mirror, reflecting the mountain in all its glory.

Kaley and JR’s sunrise engagement session captured the essence of their connection against one of Oregon’s most beautiful natural backdrops.

If you’re searching for an engagement session photographer who loves blending adventure, nature, and genuine emotion in engagement sessions, a sunrise session at Trillium Lake is an unforgettable choice.
