Colchuk Lake, WA | A Surprise Proposal

Sometimes, the best love stories start with a little adventure—and that’s exactly what happened with Becky and Mark at Colchuck Lake, Washington.

This wasn’t just any engagement!! Mark planned a full-on surprise proposal for Becky!! To pull it off, a little coordination was key. Since cell service is basically non-existent in the area, we had to plan our meeting spot in advance. I hiked in ahead of the couple, wearing a bright yellow hat so Mark could spot me once he arrived to the location, we made sure to coordinate this beforehand! Nothing says “photographer spotted” like a pop of bright yellow in the wilderness!

When Becky and Mark arrived, the moment was pure magic. Becky had no idea it was coming! Talk about a heart-melting reaction, check out her reaction in the photos below!! After the proposal, we didn’t just stop there. We made the most of the stunning location and captured a full adventure engagement session, hiking around Colchuck Lake to soak in the views and the joy of the moment.

About the Adventure:

  • Hike Distance: The trail to Colchuck Lake is about 4.8 miles round-trip, with a 2,000 ft elevation gain. It’s definitely a moderate hike, so bring your water, snacks, and comfy shoes.

  • Trailhead & Parking: The trail starts at the Stuart Lake Trailhead off Icicle Road, near Leavenworth, WA. Parking is limited, so it’s best to arrive early, especially on weekends.

  • Nearby Attractions: If you’re making a day of it, check out the nearby Enchantments or Stuart Lake for additional hiking adventures. Leavenworth itself is a charming stop for food and local shops after your outdoor escapade.

Hiking, breathtaking views, and a surprise proposal! Becky and Mark’s engagement at Colchuck Lake was a perfect mix of adventure and romance. It’s moments like these that make me love photographing couples who aren’t afraid to make the outdoors part of their love story.
